The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is probing a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 24 north of Simcoe early Wednesday morning. Two men in the vehicle were take to hospital with minor injuries, said a media release issued by the Norfolk OPP.The vehicle, a white Honda CRV, remained upside down leaning on the fence of a horse paddock at the corner of Highway 24 and Old Highway 24 as of Wednesday around 9 a.m.Becky Vandendriessche, who has lived on the property for eight years, says she and her family have witnessed eight to 10 “really bad accidents” on the corner in that time “People come up that knoll from the (south), gain speed and pull off (the road) all the time,” she said. “It’s always a really busy corner.”Vandendriessche added that the speed at which people try to negotiate the corner has long been a concern for the family.“Absolutely,” she began. “When my kids first went to school I had to put them on different buses so they never had to cross the line of traffic because we’ve had so many accidents 50 feet from our driveway. There was one two months ago.”Prior to the collision, a police officer “stopped to investigate” a vehicle on Norfolk Street North at about 12:55 a.m. The vehicle left the scene heading north on Highway 24. The vehicle was later involved in the crash. The SIU was notified due to the earlier interaction. The road remained closed throughout the morning.jrobinson@postmedia.com
