first_imgKlopp deflects agent comments on Liverpool exit: It was German humour!by Freddie Taylora month agoSend to a friendShare the loveJurgen Klopp has brushed off comments from his agent saying he could leave Liverpool because of the weather. The Liverpool manager’s agent Marc Kosicke suggested in a recent interview that Klopp could be tempted to switch Merseyside for a hotter destination.Speaking on the eve of Liverpool’s Champions League opener against Napoli, Klopp said: “There is nothing in that story.”He wanted to make a joke so now I have to be serious.”It is German humour but obviously nobody got it…I am completely fine with the weather.”Let me spell it out, the weather has never been a reason for me to choose a city and it’s certainly not a reason for me to leave the country.”Maybe at the moment (in England) it’s the most healthy weather in the world – we have enough rain, it’s cool, pretty much the opposite of this room!”There’s nothing in that story. He’s my agent and my friend.”When I speak about the weather it was about the wind which can have an effect on football, but that is not allowed in England. But that is not to a reason leave the country. I am fine.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Sarri questioned his players’ mentality and appetite for the battle after going down 2-0 to Arsenal in the Premier League at the weekend – words that certainly seemed to bring a collective response – while he called Hazard an “individual” as opposed to a “leader” at his pre-match news conference on Wednesday.Asked whether he was affected by Sarri’s observations, Hazard broke into a broad grin and told Sky Sports: “No, to be fair I don’t care.”It doesn’t matter what the manager says. Match Preview Real Madrid Atletico MadridCompetitive football may be three weeks away for Real Madrid, but the pressure is already building on Zinedine Zidane’s side, who have failed to win any of their three pre-season friendlies in normal time.A victory over Arsenal on penalties is small consolation given they were wretched in a 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich, who they could face again on Wednesday in either the final or third-fourth play-off, and even worse as they slumped 7-3 to Atletico Madrid.Zidane certainly seemed to be feeling the strain after that derby defeat in the USA.“They scored seven goals, it can’t happen,” he fumed in the aftermath. “You don’t have to spin it over. It’s a pre-season game. They’ve been better at everything. There is nothing more to talk about.”The Frenchman may talk about being calm, but ahead of Tuesday’s Audi Cup match with Tottenham in Munich, he will appreciate that there must be a change of fortune and attitude. After finishing a distant third in La Liga last season, losing three of their last four games to boot, the last thing that Zidane needs is another defeat.Away from the field, matters are complicated by the ongoing presence of Gareth Bale, whose transfer saga has been an unwelcome sideshow that has only served to undermine Madrid further. For now, the situation remains at an impasse, such that he has not even travelled to potentially face his former club.Spurs may be coming into the match off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, but a previous win over Juventus, which was marked by a Harry Kane wonder-goal, means that Mauricio Pochettino’s side can at least feel they are on the right track.“Both performances have been fantastic,” the Argentine said. “I think the behaviour of the players, on and off the pitch, has been fantastic. We’re building our fitness and the way we want to play for next season. There’s a lot of positive things.”Zidane cannot yet say the same, but a victory over the Champions League runners-up would help to change that, with the winners of this clash to play a final against either the hosts or Fenerbahce on Wednesday.last_img read more

(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)With his transfer to Oklahoma, Jalen Hurts had to know that there was a distinct possibility of facing his alma mater, Alabama. A showdown could come in the College Football Playoff.Alabama has made the four-team playoff field every year since it came into use. Oklahoma has been a fairly regular participant as well, and faced the Crimson Tide in the semifinal game last year. That isn’t to say that Hurts is bitter about how things played out at Alabama. It would be hard to find someone who handled that type of situation better, especially considering he stayed for the full 2018-19 season when it looked like he would ultimately lose his job to Tua Tagovailoa.Remember, if not for Hurts being on the team, Alabama may very well have lost the SEC Championship to Georgia, and could have missed the College Football Playoff altogether. Considering how the last two Oklahoma quarterbacks have fared, the move to Norman clearly signals that Hurts has the NFL on his mind. He is definitely aware that the potential for a postseason game against Alabama is there. While he hasn’t gone on the record to state that he wants this to happen, someone he played for says that it has to be the case.Maryland head coach Mike Locksley, an Alabama staffer from 2016-18 and the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide last fall, said as much in a USA Today article:“I’m sure in the back of Jalen’s mind, he would like to see the Oklahoma-Alabama matchup happen,” says Maryland coach Mike Locksley, who was Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2018 – and who badly wanted Hurts to transfer to Maryland. “I think that came into play when he made the decision to go there.”Hurts led Alabama to a 26-2 record as starter over two seasons, during which he was first team All-SEC as a starter in 2016. Hurts’ Crimson Tide lost to Deshaun Watson and Clemson in his national championship during his freshman season, and were on the ropes in the same spot against Georgia the year after. At halftime of the game, Saban made the risky decision to go with Tagovailoa, the talented but little-used freshman back-up. He led the Crimson Tide to the title game win, and was ultimately named starter the following season over Hurts. If this comes to pass, we may get a direct Hurts vs. Tagovailoa match-up this winter.[USA Today]last_img read more

V Patil (1/25) and SS Mishra (1/27) also chipped in with one wicket each at the R Premadasa Stadium here.Chasing a small target of 107, skipper Akbar Ali (23) and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury (21) kept Bangladesh in the hunt. After they were back to the pavillion, Tanzim Hasan Sakib (12) and Rakibul Hasan (11) raised hopes of a Bangladesh win before India fought back to bundle them out.Earlier, skipper Dhruv Jurel (33) and lower-order batsman Karan Lal (37) came up with useful contributions to help India cross the 100-run mark.Meanwhile, BCCI took on Twitter to congratulate the young players:Defending Champions India U19 hold their nerve and seal a thrilling 5 run win over Bangladesh in U19 Asia Cup final. first_img Next Reuters SingaporeSeptember 23, 2019UPDATED: September 23, 2019 15:15 IST Reuters PhotoHIGHLIGHTSVettel pitted first and leapfrogged Leclerc in a tactic known as an undercutLeclerc, who had led from pole position, finished 2nd behind Vettel as a resultVettel and Leclerc handed Ferrari their first one-two finish since the 2017 Hungarian Grand PrixFerrari defended their Singapore Grand Prix pit-stop strategy on Sunday after it set up Sebastian Vettel to beat team mate Charles Leclerc, who had led from pole position, in a one-two finish. The Monegasque had seemed in control and heading for a third straight win after back-to-back victories in Belgium and Italy, but Vettel pitted first and leapfrogged Leclerc in a tactic known as an undercut. The victory was the German’s first in nearly 13 months and handed Ferrari their first one-two finish since the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix.Leclerc was vocal in expressing his displeasure over the team radio but team principal Mattia Binotto said stopping Vettel a lap earlier had been the right call in the bigger picture. The move prevented Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas from using the undercut themselves to get ahead of Ferrari.”Verstappen and Bottas were ready to stop, we knew that, and the best way to protect Sebastian’s position was to stop him,” Binotto told reporters.”So it was the right timing to stop Seb and on that I think there are no discussions.”Usually, teams follow a policy where they pit the lead car first and give them the benefit of fresh tyres.Binotto said that was not an option in this case as Ferrari feared Leclerc, a 21-year-old in only his second season in Formula One, would come out behind slower cars.He was brought in on the lap after Vettel pitted. Binotto said they had not expected the four times world champion to gain as much time (3.9 seconds) on his fresher tyres as he had.advertisement”As a matter of fact, when we stopped Sebastian, we thought that Charles stopping the lap after, he would have remained ahead of Sebastian,” said the Italian.Asked if Ferrari had considered swapping their drivers around given the unintended consequence of the pit strategy, Binotto said they had but ultimately decided against it.”We are still discussing with our two drivers whether that was the right choice or not, something which internally we may still have a different opinion (on),” he said.Leclerc said he had understood the situation a lot better than in the heat of the moment behind the wheel.”Obviously I wished I was one step higher today but it’s part of life,” he said. “Sometimes it goes that way and I’ll bounce back stronger in (the next race) Russia.”Also Read | Lewis Hamilton promises to ‘get back in the scrum’ after missing Singapore GP podiumAlso Read | Fan mails, messages gave me a lot of belief: Sebastian Vettel after Singapore GP winAlso Read | Singapore GP: Vettel ends win drought to deny Leclerc title hat-trickFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. first_imgMy oh my, how the times have changed.A few short years ago, if you wanted to listen to a bit of music, you made your way over to the gramophone. If you wanted to send a text-based missive to an acquaintance, you turned to the Postal Service or ordered a telegram. If you wanted to watch a program, you sat down in front of the Look-O-Box.Now all those tasks, and so many more, are handled by that ubiquitous device you clutch so dearly in that little claw of yours, the smartphone! What has enabled these devices to supplant so many other types of technology? Why, the app, of course. And I’m not talking about shrimp cocktails, except for in this current sentence, in which I am, in fact, talking about shrimp cocktails.Related: Outdoor AppsWhen apps (or “applications”) first began cropping up in the late 1960s (or maybe it was the early 2000s), it was considered the height of fashion to say: “There’s an app for that!” whenever applicable. Appropriate use of this phrase elicited tittering laughter from the ladies and backslapping from the gentlemen. For example, were a fellow to say “I should certainly like it were my iPhone to make a noise like a lightsaber from those inimitable (original) Star Wars films,” you would then shriek “There’s an app for that!” And now that we’ve beaten that horse well past the point of death…As you surely know, today there really are apps for just about everything, and that’s true whether you use an iPhone, Android, or other platform. Some apps are quite useful, helping you manage your schedule, access streaming video content, or battle zombies. Then we have some selections from the fringe…Batshit crazy though they may seem, these are all real, honest-to-goodness apps you can download right now. (But which you probably shouldn’t.) Hold OnThis app is a waste of time. That’s literally all it is, and I’m literally almost using the word “literally” properly. You launch the app, then you hold the gray button that says Hold On for “as long as you can,” which can also be read as “until the crushing realization of the futility at hand crystalizes in your suddenly seething brain.” Check your score to see how much of your goddamn life you wasted last time, and don’t forget to submit your score so you can suffer the scrutiny of others!Carrr MateyHave you ever forgotten where you parked your car and ended up wasting precious time searching for it? Did you ever wish there were some way to record your vehicle’s location for easy recovery? And have you wished that this recovery process would be narrated by a pirate? Probably lost you on the last point there, but… if a pirate guide is your thing, this is your app.Drunk Dial No!OK, this is actually not a bad idea for some people. If you have a tendency to tipple and then you start calling/texting/sexting people who might be better left alone or contacted when you were sober, then let your sober self take control before it’s too late. This app allows you to set select contacts as off limits after certain hours or for certain chunks of time. Of course you can bypass it by manually typing in their number…Finger TreadmillIf you use this app once or twice as a joke to share with your friends or a date, fine, have your fun. If you use this app for more than two or three minutes total (as in during your lifetime), then guess what, buddy? Your problem isn’t the Finger Treadmill app, it’s the proverbial hamster wheel of your entire existence.Llama or DuckDo you think you have what it takes to discern the difference between a llama and a duck? This app will help prove your mettle! The images flash and it’s up to you to click the right box… is that a duck? Was it a llama? What the hell are you doing with yourself, man? There are mountains to climb, books to read, humans with whom to speak, a whole–wait, it was a duck? Dammit! first_img A Comprehensive Guide to Plant-Based Milks and Their Benefits Editors’ Recommendations SNL’s Kyle Mooney Never Had a Real Job and He’s Cool With That Goodwill is always there for you when you need a Halloween costume or when you’re moving and you need to lighten your household load. Your donations also ensure that Goodwill can be there for millions of people through employment, job training, youth mentoring, free educational classes, financial coaching, even resume help and free tax planning.Since 1902, Goodwill has been a fixture in communities, helping individuals and families. It was the brainchild of Reverend Edgar J. Helms who went around the ritzy neighborhoods of Boston collecting used home goods and clothing to help the needy. Then he hired and trained people to repair those items either for sale or to be kept by the workers. Helms believed in “not charity, but a chance.” Over a hundred years later, Goodwill is still at it and considered one of the top five most valuable nonprofits. In 2014 they were 11th on Forbes’ 20 most inspiring companies, and consumers have decided it’s the #1 brand doing the most good in the whole wide world. So what is all this good exactly? Well, you drop off donations of clothes or household items, they employ people to sort through those donations, they have employees who run the store, and the profits from the sale of your stuff help fund Goodwill programs. #WinWin!Goodwill is focused on helping people get jobs who might otherwise be overlooked: people with disabilities, senior citizens, and people with criminal backgrounds. And they don’t just stop at a wage– employees of Goodwill have access to healthcare, retirement plans, vacation and sick leave, paid volunteer days, onsite exercise programs, healthy cooking classes, and even wellness programs like Weight Watchers and one to help people to quit smoking.Goodwill can help people earn a high school diploma, GED, certification, even a college degree. You don’t even need to live near one of their more than 3,000 locations to benefit. They offer online resources like GoodProspects, which helps find careers, job training, and even get advice from their virtual career mentors. GCFLLearnFree.org (and its Spanish language counterpart) offers over 700 free online classes that we should all probably be taking– things like Microsoft Word, any of the Mac OS platforms, Photoshop basics, WordPress tutorials, grammar tutorials, math help, interview prep, even money management.Once you’ve gotten a great new career thanks to Goodwill’s career advice, job training, and life skills classes, they also offer you help on managing your money. They have free tax preparation to qualified people, Goodwill staff can help you get a bank account, develop a savings schedule, even secure loans. Goodwill also has financial coaching, helping to provide information and options in the case of things like foreclosure.Goodwill has programs specifically geared towards helping veterans transition from the military to a career. People with disabilities can find help with job placement and support, physical rehab programs, and even farmers and ranchers with disabilities can benefit from Goodwill’s support. And Helms’ philosophy that people need chances is clearly in action through Goodwill’s work with people with criminal backgrounds. They start before people are even released from prison by helping build job skills and secure the documentation required for work. Goodwill helps prepare people for the GED, interview techniques, occupational training, job placement, and life skills like parenting and relationship skills.Between the US and Canada, over 9 million people have donated clothes and items to Goodwill, ensuring they can fund these wildly important and helpful services. As of 2014, 318,000 people gained employment because of Goodwill’s career services. Every 23 seconds of every workday, a person via Goodwill gets a job. That’s mind blowing. Now that you’re even more inspired to donate to Goodwill, take a moment before you drop it off to tell us all about it on social media!
