first_imgThe St. Louis Cardinals 5th grade boys basketball team played their 2nd game of the season tonight and suffered their first loss at the hands of the Mt. Carmel Vikings by the score of 37 – 29.It was another competitive game as the Cardinals were down by only two points with under one minute left to play in the game.Despite the loss, this team is extremely talented and continues to learn and get better every day. The team was led in scoring by Ben Harmeyer (12), Charlie Schebler (12), Nate Reder (2), Cy Muckerheide (2) and Nate Vankirk (1). Aiden Geers, Jack Hollins, Luke Meer and Luke Meyer were very important to a very hard fought team effort!The next game will be this Thursday, November 12 at home against Laurel at 6:00pm. first_imgFormer Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has named the 2006 World Cup squad as his best ever Black Stars team.Led by head coach Ratomir Dujkovic the 2006 squad represented Ghana at its debut World Cup and managed to exceed expectations.Placed in Group E which also had Italy,Czech Republic and the United States of America the Black Stars of recovered from a bumpy 2 – 0 defeat in their opening game against Italy to beat Czech Republic by 2 goals to nil before rounding it off with a hard fought 2 – 1 win over the United States.Recounting the experience Appiah, praised the depth in quality of the squad.“The 2006 squad was something else because if you look at our bench the players on there were equally as good as the starters.“Take a guy like Haminu Dramani he didn’t start the first and second game but the third match against the United States we saw his performance.“All though he was on the bench you could tell that he was ready when given the opportunity.“You could also see guys like Derek Boateng who was equally a good as myself and Michael Essien.“And then at the back we had a guy like Shilla Illiasu who came in for Osei Kuffour and did really well.“It was really an all round team,” he revealed.Appiah himself is currently studying to acquire his coaching badges as he aims to become a full time coachlast_img read more

first_imgministry New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) Sports Ministry has written to the Ministry of Urban Development for promotion of sports facilities in smart cities being developed by the government, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. “We have already written to the Urban Development Ministry for promoting sports facilities in the new smart cities being set up by the government,” Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said. He said Sports is a state subject and it is the primary responsibility of the state government to develop sports infrastructure. Earlier in his written reply to questions, the Minister said, “Proposals of the smart cities are based on consultations with citizens of the proposed smart cities. Selected 20 smart cities of the Round 1 have not proposed sports arena in their Smart City Proposals (SCPs).” When prodded by members on why the Sports ministry was not developing sports infrastructure, Sonowal said “it is beyond my jurisdictionto develop mandatory sports facilities in smart cities.” PTI SKC AKKlast_img read more
