Daniels leads Cal Poly Pomona

first_imgA night after Billy Hofman was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, Kaelen Daniels showed that he too, can be perfect. Daniels was 6-for-6 from the field and scored 15 points with a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Cal Poly Pomona men’s basketball team to a 73-60 victory over Chico State on Saturday night in Chico. Freshman Donnelle Booker had a season-high 19 points do go along with eight rebounds and Dion Cook also scored 19 points for the Broncos (17-6 overall, 13-5 CCAA). Hofman, one night after scoring a career-high 24 points, and setting or tying two school records, scored five points on only 1-of-3 shooting on Saturday. Cal Poly, ranked No. 24 in the country and No. 3 in the West Region, doesn’t usually dominate in rebounding, but out-rebounded the Wildcats (6-17, 4-14) 33-19 on Saturday, and shot 62 percent from the field. Chico, which has lost nine games in a row, got only four offensive rebounds in the entire game. Jon Baird led Chico with 20 points, making six 3-pointers, and Justin Argenal added 13 points. Chico took an early 15-8 lead, but the Broncos quickly took the lead and never led by fewer than four points the rest of the way. Cal Poly also held a 38-22 lead in points in the paint over the Wildcats. CAL POLY WOMEN center_img Ashley Moody scored 12 points and Vanessa Dominguez added 11, but the Broncos fell to Chico State, 73-53 in Chico. Freshman Melissa Richardson led Chico (18-4, 14-4) with a career-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Amber Simmons also scored 16 points for the Wildcats.
